During my last couple of visits to my local recently, i noticed some weird behaviour coming from a vast shoal of average sized roach. In the shoal of roach were individual numbers motionless with there heads down midwater, while the rest of the shoal moved around these fish stayed still, and virtually vertical. when the shoal moved off they swam with them normally, as the shoal milled around in another area, again individuals stayed motionless ...
